Privacy Policy

Effective September 25, 2026

The short version

  • Centi has no servers and no accounts. We never receive your recordings, transcripts, notes or study data.
  • Transcription and AI features run on your iPhone using Apple's on-device models.
  • If you turn on iCloud, your library syncs through your own private iCloud storage. We can't read it.
  • No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, in the app or on this website.
  • The only personal data we ever see is what you send us by email.

Who we are

This policy covers the Centi iPhone app (including its widgets, Live Activities, Siri and Shortcuts actions) and the website at centi.app. Centi is made by Martin Mirchevski ("we", "us"), an independent developer. For any privacy question, email support@centi.app.

What the app handles, and where it lives

To do its job, Centi creates and stores the following on your device:

All of this stays in the app's storage on your device (and in iCloud, if you enable it, see below). None of it is sent to us. There is no Centi server for it to be sent to.

On-device processing

Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech recognition. Notes, flashcards, quizzes and answers to questions about your lectures are generated by Apple Intelligence models running on your iPhone, or, on iPhones without Apple Intelligence, by Centi's own offline engine. Your content is not sent to us or to any AI provider to produce these results.

Widgets, Live Activities and Shortcuts

Widgets and Live Activities show small snapshots of your data (for example, a recording in progress or cards due today). These are shared between the app and its widgets through storage on your device. Siri, Shortcuts, the Action button and Control Center controls run through Apple's systems on your device and are covered by Apple's privacy policy.

Exporting and sharing

When you export to PDF, Markdown or Anki, or use the share sheet, the file goes where you choose to send it. From that point, the destination app or service handles it under its own policy.

iCloud sync

If iCloud is enabled for Centi on your device, your library is stored in your private iCloud database so it syncs to your other devices. That data is held by Apple under your Apple Account and Apple's Privacy Policy. Private iCloud databases are not accessible to app developers, so we cannot see, access or restore your data. You can turn this off in iOS Settings under your name, then iCloud.

Purchases

Centi Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your name, email, card details or billing address. The app uses Apple's StoreKit to check on your device whether you have an active purchase or trial. Apple provides us with aggregated, non-identifying sales and subscription reports through App Store Connect.

Permissions

Centi asks for permissions only when you use the feature that needs them. You can change them any time in iOS Settings.

No analytics, ads or tracking

Centi contains no analytics, advertising, attribution or tracking code, and no third-party SDKs. We do not track you across apps or websites, build profiles, or sell or share personal information.

If you have chosen in iOS to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us anonymized crash reports and usage statistics. You control this in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.

When you email us

If you contact support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and help you, keep it only as long as needed for that, and never add you to a mailing list. Please don't send recordings or transcripts unless you want us to see them.

The website

centi.app is a static website. It has no accounts, forms, cookies or analytics.

Recording other people

Lectures include other people's voices, such as your professor and classmates. Because recordings stay on your device, you control them, and you are responsible for recording lawfully and with any permission your school or local law requires. See our Terms.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your data stays until you delete it. Deleted lectures and courses move to Recently Deleted for 30 days, then are removed permanently. Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. If you use iCloud sync, you can also remove Centi's iCloud data in iOS Settings under your name, then iCloud, then Manage Account Storage. Because we don't hold a copy, we can't recover data once it's gone, so export anything you want to keep.

Children

Centi is a study tool for students and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, since the app doesn't send data to us.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since your Centi data lives on your devices and in your own iCloud, you can exercise most of these directly in the app. For anything we hold, which is only support emails, write to support@centi.app and we'll respond within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal basis for handling support emails is our legitimate interest in answering you.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Centi handles data, we'll update this page and the effective date above. If a change is significant, such as introducing any data collection, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
